I totally agree about many companies not using the big generalist job boards like Monstar and Career Builders any longer. They are posting their jobs on niche job boards specific to their industry, to avoid being deluged with unqualified resumes.

In my industry, medical sales, many of these jobs are being posted on a hot new job board exclusively for jobs in medical sales called GorillaMed.com. They feature medical device jobs and pharmaceutical sales jobs.

Happily employed

I have to disagree with you about recruiters. I recently got a job through a recruiting agency for a position that was not even posted on the company website or any other popular and niche job boards. And I've searched many job boards as I had been looking for work for the last year. I had sent approx. 40-50 resumes and personalized cover letters to companies directly and this agency found my resume on monster and got my foot in the door for a job that was everything I had been looking for.

Not only did they make the process smooth by being the first point of contact, they even negotiated a higher salary for me and found a position that was a good fit for my skills and personality.

I think different agencies may be better than others but I would not rule them out entirely.

I really enjoyed reading your article! Everywhere on the Internet and newspapers you hear about hidden job market but you can hardly guess what it means. And here is a step-by-step explanation. Great!
